To me, knots are very fascinating. For ages they were important for mankind. As we are getting better in developing glues, and buckles, and don't sail so much on the sea they have become less necessary but still it is a topic that is strangely fascinating. In how many different ways can we knot a piece of string? How many knots are there? Can we distinguish differnt types of knots? - These are typical question mathematicians ask about knots. And over the decades we have several different tables and schemes to list knots. Both books, the matchbook even more than the larger one, play with the simultaneity of simplicity and complexity of the subject.
The pages are made of a cream colored Siam paper, the covering material is a red mulberry paper.
Both the materials and the binding style were supposed to emmit simplicity. Therefore I chose a
plain stab binding for the one book. The other is a simple collection of loose leaves put in a matchbox.
Finished in October 2008.
